Mike and Susie are old friends of Peter Hammill, he used to live with. Susie is the actress Susan Penhaligon and Mike is Mike McLeod, her (former?) boyfriend. Mike and Susie will later return in Easy to Slip Away.

Once upon a time the phrase "Whats the Mike and Susie ?" was much used by a group of us to mean "Whats the point ?". The derivation of this was the line "West is Mike and Susie" but for some reason West Point Military Academy was in the news and some how or another this got twisted via West Point -> Whats the Point -> Whats the Mike & Susie. 

Yes I know utter rubbish but it made sense then !!!
