Suddenly there came along this wind something towards him-- a message from the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] place--from some soul residing there, it seemed. Surely it was the sound of bells, the voice of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] city, faint and musical, calling to him, "We are happy here!"

He had become entirely lost to his bodily situation during this mental leap, and only got back to it by a rough recalling. A few yards below the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] brow of the hill on which he paused a team of horses made its appearance, having reached the place by dint of half an hour's serpentine progress from the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] bottom of the immense declivity. They had a load of coals behind them-- a fuel that could only be got into the upland by this particular route. They were accompanied by a carter, a second man, and a boy, who now kicked a large stone behind one of the wheels, and allowed the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] panting animals to have a long rest, while those in charge took a flagon off the load and indulged in a drink round.

They were elderly [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] men, and had genial voices. Jude addressed them, inquiring if they had come from Christminster.

"Heaven forbid, with this [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] load!" said they.

"The [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] place I mean is that one yonder." He was getting so romantically attached to Christminster that, like a young lover alluding to his mistress, he felt bashful at mentioning its name again. He pointed to the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] light in the sky--hardly perceptible to their older eyes.

"Yes. There do seem a spot a bit brighter in the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] nor'- east than elsewhere, though I shouldn't ha' noticed it myself, and no doubt it med be Christminster."

Here a little book of tales which Jude had tucked up under his [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] arm, having brought them to read on his way hither before it grew dark, slipped and fell into the road. The carter eyed him while he picked it up and straightened the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] leaves.

"Ah, young [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] man," he observed, "you'd have to get your head screwed on t'other way before you could read what they read there."

"Why?" asked the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] boy.

"Oh, they never look at anything that folks like we can understand," the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] carter continued, by way of passing the time. "On'y foreign tongues used in the days of the Tower of Babel, when no two families spoke alike. They read that sort of thing as fast as a night-hawk will whir. 'Tis all learning there-- nothing but learning, except religion. And that's learning too, for I never could understand it. Yes, 'tis a serious-minded place. Not but there's wenches in the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] streets o' nights.... You know, I suppose, that they raise pa'sons there like radishes in a bed? And though it do take--how many years, Bob?--five years to turn a lirruping hobble-de-hoy chap into a solemn preaching man with no corrupt passions, they'll do it, if it can be done, and polish un off like the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] workmen they be, and turn un out wi' a long face, and a long black coat and waistcoat, and a religious collar and hat, same as they used to wear in the Scriptures, so that his own mother wouldn't know un sometimes.... There, 'tis their business, like anybody else's."

"But how should you know [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling]"

"Now don't you interrupt, my boy. Never interrupt your senyers. Move the fore hoss aside, Bobby; here's som'at coming.... You must mind that I be a-talking of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] college life. 'Em lives on a lofty level; there's no gainsaying it, though I myself med not think much of 'em. As we be here in our bodies on this high ground, so be they in their minds--noble-minded men enough, no doubt-- some on 'em--able to earn hundreds by thinking out loud. And some on 'em be strong young fellows that can earn a'most as much in silver cups. As for music, there's beautiful music everywhere in Christminster. You med be religious, or you med not, but you can't help striking in your homely note with the rest. And there's a street in the place--the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] main street--that ha'n't another like it in the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] world. I should think I did know a little about Christminster!"

By this time the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] horses had recovered breath and bent to their collars again. Jude, throwing a last adoring look at the distant halo, turned and walked beside his remarkably well-informed friend, who had no objection to telling him as they moved on more yet of the city-- its towers and halls and churches. The [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] waggon turned into a cross-road, whereupon Jude thanked the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] carter warmly for his information, and said he only wished he could talk half as well about Christminster as he.

"Well, 'tis oonly what has come in my way," said the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] carter unboastfully. "I've never been there, no more than you; but I've picked up the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] knowledge here and there, and you be welcome to it. A-getting about the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] world as I do, and mixing with all classes of society, one can't help hearing of things. A friend o' mine, that used to clane the boots at the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] Crozier Hotel in Christminster when he was in his prime, why, I knowed un as well as my own brother in his later years."

Jude continued his [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] walk homeward alone, pondering so deeply that he forgot to feel timid. He suddenly grew older. It had been the yearning of his heart to find something to anchor on, to cling to--for some place which he could call admirable. Should he find that place in this city if he could get there? Would it be a spot in which, without fear of farmers, or hindrance, or ridicule, he could watch and wait, and set himself to some mighty undertaking like the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] men of old of whom he had heard? As the halo had been to his [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] eyes when gazing at it a quarter of an hour earlier, so was the spot mentally to him as he pursued his dark way.

SLENDER as was Jude Fawley's frame he bore the two [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] brimming house-buckets of water to the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] cottage without resting. Over the door was a little rectangular piece of blue board, on which was painted in yellow letters, "Drusilla Fawley, Baker." Within the little lead panes of the window-- this being one of the few old houses left--were five bottles of sweets, and three buns on a plate of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] willow pattern.

While emptying the buckets at the back of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] house he could hear an animated conversation in progress within-doors between his great-aunt, the Drusilla of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] sign-board, and some other villagers. Having seen the school-master depart, they were summing up particulars of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] event, and indulging in predictions of his future.

"And who's he?" asked one, comparatively a stranger, when the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] boy entered.

"Well ye med ask it, Mrs. Williams. But I've got him here to stay with me till I can see what's to be done with un, though I am obliged to let him earn any penny he can. Just now he's a-scaring of birds for Farmer Troutham. It keeps him out of mischty. Why do ye turn away, Jude?" she continued, as the boy, feeling the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] impact of their glances like slaps upon his face, moved aside.

The local [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] washerwoman replied that it was perhaps a very good plan of Miss or Mrs. Fawley's (as they called her indifferently) to have him with her--"to kip 'ee company in your loneliness, fetch water, shet the winder-shet-ters o' nights, and help in the bit o' baking."

Miss Fawley doubted it.... "Why didn't ye get the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] schoolmaster to take 'ee to Christminster wi' un, and make a scholar of 'ee," she continued, in frowning pleasantry. "I'm sure he couldn't ha' took a better one. The boy is crazy for books, that he is. It runs in our family rather. His cousin Sue is just the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] same-- so I've heard; but I have not seen the child for years, though she was born in this place, within these four walls, as it happened. My niece and her husband, after they were married, didn' get a house of their own for some year or more; and then they only had one till-- Well, I won't go into that. Jude, my child, don't you ever marry. 'Tisn't for the Fawleys to take that step any more. She, their only one, was like a child o' my own, Belinda, till the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] split come! Ah, that a little maid should know such changes!"

Jude, finding the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] general attention again centering on himself, went out to the bakehouse, where he ate the cake provided for his breakfast. The end of his spare time had now arrived, and emerging from the garden by getting over the hedge at the back he pursued a path northward, till he came to a wide and lonely depression in the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] general level of the upland, which was sown as a corn-field. This vast concave was the scene of his labours for Mr Troutham the farmer, and he descended into the midst of it.

The [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] brown surface of the field went right up towards the sky all round, where it was lost by degrees in the mist that shut out the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] actual verge and accentuated the solitude. The only marks on the uniformity of the scene were a rick of last year's produce standing in the midst of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] arable, the rooks that rose at his approach, and the path athwart the fallow by which he had come, trodden now by he hardly knew whom, though once by many of his own dead family.

IV. Or picture the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] unlighted house, empty at fall of night. The [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro power leveling] windows are dark; the door shut; the clean wind goes about and about it, and cannot find an entrance. The dull heavy air is faint within; it longs to be reunited to the wind of the world outside. Then comes the woman with the key, and in she steps; the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] windows are opened, the imprisoned air rushes out, the wind enters; the lamps and the fire are lit; so that light fills windows and doors. The tables are set, there is the sound of footsteps; and more footsteps. The house [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] glows and lives.

One could please oneself by many more images; such as the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] white garment of feathers that the young swans put on in the spring: the young flowers opening out their cups to the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] Sun that fills them with his golden wine. All life is full of such images, because nature has ruled that [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] love, energy, beauty, and joy are one.

V. A last image only I would like to add because of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] pleasure it has given me. On the north door of the Cathedral of Chartres there is a sculptured design, some six hundred years old, of God creating the birds. God is charming, quite young, not more than thirty-eight or so; He has a most sweet [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro power leveling] expression. Behind Him a little stands the Son, about seventeen, tall as He and very like Him, but beardless. He has the same sweetness of look, as though upon each countenance an ineffable smile were just dawning. The [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] Father is holding something that time has broken in His hand; most likely it is a bird. What a fortunate moment! What a fortunate thought! No wonder they both look pleased. Never have the birds disappointed Him as have we, His ruder children. Every spring since then these small creatures praise Him, head turned skywards, for the joy of the beloved, for the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] secret nest.

Imagining and pondering, one is apt to grow a little wise; now perhaps we may say that love is a radiant atmosphere of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] soul, a celestial energy, a fluid force.

This force, this energy is set running in the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] wide kingdom that is within us by some Spirit touch. A soft tumult takes place in the life within; waves on waves of joy, desire, grief, ecstasy begin to run, making a trembling music that often causes the whole [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] body to shake and tremble too.

I am in love with love; I do adore it;—from the smile [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] on that rough fellow’s face as he talks to his dog, to the ardours of a St. Francis or a Joan of Arc. That bright creative flame, winged, conferring the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] gift of tongues, master of all music, of all joy, is the best thing we have of [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] life.

There was once a [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro power leveling] child, and he strolled about a good deal, and thought of a number of things. He had a sister, who was a child too, and his constant companion. These two used to wonder all day long. They wondered at the beauty of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] flowers; they wondered at the height [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] and blueness of the sky; they wondered at the depth of the bright water; they wondered at the goodness and the power of God who made the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] lovely world.

They used to say to one another, sometimes, supposing all the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] children upon earth were to die, would the flowers, and the water, and the sky be sorry? They believed they would be sorry. For, said they, the buds are the children of the flowers, and the little [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro power leveling] playful streams that gambol down the hill-sides are the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] children of the water; and the smallest bright specks playing at hide and seek in the sky all night, must surely be the children of the stars; and they would all be grieved to see their playmates, the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] children of men, no more.

There was one clear shining star that used to come out in the sky before the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] rest, near the church spire, above the graves. It was larger and more beautiful, they thought, than all the others, and every night they watched for it, standing hand in hand at a window. Whoever saw it first cried out, "I see the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro power leveling] star!" And often they cried out both together, knowing so well when it would rise, and where. So they grew to be such friends with it, that, before lying down in their beds, they always looked out once again, to bid it good-night; and when they were turning round to sleep, they used to say, "God bless the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] star!"

But while she was still very young, oh very, very young, the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] sister drooped, and came to be so weak that she could no longer stand in the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro power leveling] window at night; and then the child looked sadly out by himself, and when he saw the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro powerleveling] star, turned round and said to the patient pale face on the bed, "I see the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] star!" and then a smile would come upon the face, and a little weak voice used to say, "God bless my brother and the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] star!"

And so the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] time came all too soon! when the child looked out alone, and when there was no face on the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net/powerlist.php?fid=2871 lotro power leveling] bed; and when there was a little grave among the graves, not there before; and when the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] star made long rays down toward him, as he saw it through his tears.

Now, these rays were so bright, and they seemed to make such a shining way from earth to Heaven, that when the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] child went to his solitary bed, he dreamed about the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] star; and dreamed that, lying where he was, he saw a train of people taken up that sparkling road by angels.
I never considered myself unique, but people [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] are constantly telling me, "you are a miracle." To me, I was just an ordinary "guy" with realistic goals and big dreams. I was a 19-ye ar-old student at the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] University of Texas and well on my way toward fulfilling my "big dream" of one day becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

On the night of February 17, 1981 I was studying [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] for an Organic Chemistry test at the library with Sharon, my girlfriend of three years. Sharon had asked me to drive her back to her dormitory as it was getting quite late. We got into my car, not realizing that just getting into a car would never quite be the same [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] for me again. I quickly noticed that my gas gauge was registered on empty so I pulled into a nearby convenience store to buy $2.00 worth of gas. "I'll be back in two minutes," I yelled at Sharon as I closed the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] door. But instead, those two minutes changed my life forever.

Entering the convenience store was like entering the twilight [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] zone. On the outside I was a healthy, athletic, pre-med student, but on the inside I was just another statistic of a violent crime. I thought I was entering an empty store, but suddenly I realized it was not empty at all. Three [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] robbers were in the process of committing a robbery and my entrance into the store caught them by surprise. One of the criminals immediately shoved a .38 caliber handgun to my head, ordered me to the cooler, pushed me down on the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] floor, and pumped a bullet into the back of my head - execution style. He obviously thought I was dead because he did not shoot me again. The trio of thieves finished robbing the store and left calmly. 。

Meanwhile, Sharon wondered why I had not returned. After seeing the three [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] men leave the store she really began to worry as I was the last person she saw entering the store. She quickly went inside to look for me, but saw no one-only an almost empty cash register [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] containing one check and several pennies. Quickly she ran down each aisle shouting, "Mike, Mike!"

Just then the attendant appeared from the back of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net lotro power leveling] store shouting, "Lady, get down on the floor. I've just been robbed and shot at!"

Sharon quickly dropped to the floor screaming [http://www.toppowerlevel.net lotro powerleveling], "Have you seen my boyfriend? He has auburn hair." The man did not reply but went back to the cooler where he found me choking on my vomit.

Mr. Knightley, a sensible man about seven or eight-and-thirty, was not only a very old and intimate friend of the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] family, but particularly connected with it, as the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] elder brother of Isabella's husband. He lived about a mile from Highbury, was a frequent visitor, and always welcome, and at this time more welcome than usual, as coming directly from their mutual connexions in London. He had returned to a late dinner, after some days' absence, and now walked up to Hartfield to say that all were well in Brunswick Square. It was a happy circumstance, and animated Mr. Woodhouse for some time. Mr. Knightley had a cheerful manner, which always did him good; and his many inquiries after "poor Isabella" and her children were answered most satisfactorily. When this was over, Mr. Woodhouse gratefully observed, "It is very kind of you, Mr. Knightley, to come out at this late hour to call upon us. I am afraid you must have had a shocking walk."

"Not at all, sir. It is a beautiful moonlight night; and so mild that I must draw back from your great fire."

"But you must have found [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] very damp and dirty. I wish you may not catch cold."

"Dirty, sir! Look at my shoes. Not a speck on them."

"Well! that is quite surprising, for we have had a vast deal of rain here. It rained dreadfully hard for half an hour while we were at breakfast. I wanted them to put off the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level] wedding."

"By the bye--I have not wished [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] joy. Being pretty well aware of what sort of joy you must both be feeling, I have been in no hurry with my congratulations; but I hope it all went off tolerably well. How did you all behave? Who cried most?"

"Ah! poor Miss Taylor! 'Tis a sad business."

"Poor Mr. and Miss Woodhouse, if you please; but I cannot possibly say `poor Miss Taylor.' I have a great regard for you and Emma; but when it comes to the [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] question of dependence or independence!--At any rate, it must be better to have only one to please than two."

"Especially when one of those two is such a fanciful [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power level], troublesome creature!" said Emma playfully. "That is what you have in your head, I know--and what you would certainly say if my [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] father were not by."

"I believe it is very true, my dear, indeed," said Mr. Woodhouse, with a sigh. "I am afraid I am sometimes very fanciful and troublesome."
"My dearest papa! You do not think I could mean you, or suppose Mr. Knightley to mean you. What a horrible idea! Oh no! I meant only myself. Mr. Knightley loves to find fault with me, you know-- [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] in a joke--it is all a joke. We always say what we like to one another."

Mr. Knightley, in fact, was one of the few [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] people who could see faults in Emma Woodhouse, and the only [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] one who ever told her of them: and though this was not particularly agreeable to Emma herself, she knew it would be so much less so to her father, that she would not have him really suspect such a circumstance as her not being thought perfect by every body.

"Emma knows [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] never flatter her," said Mr. Knightley, "but I meant no reflection on any body. Miss Taylor has been used to have two persons to please; [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow powerleveling] will now have but one. The chances are that she must be a gainer."

"Well," said Emma, willing to let it pass--"[http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] want to hear about the wedding; and I shall be happy to tell you, for we all behaved charmingly. Every body was punctual, every body in their best looks: not a tear, and hardly a long face to be seen. Oh no; we all felt that we were going to be only half a mile apart, and were sure of meeting every day."

"Dear Emma bears every thing so well," said her father. "But, Mr. Knightley, [http://www.toppowerlevel.net wow power leveling] is really very sorry to lose poor Miss Taylor, and I am sure she will miss her more than she thinks for."
